Vulgar ektima
This is not too large an ulcer on the skin, but deeply affecting them and having a purulent character. Sometimes there may be several such formations. External traces of skin lesions remain even after the course of treatment. The consequences of vulgar ectima look like scars pigmented along their borders. In addition to the traditional pathogen, there are ecthymes caused by a mixed infection — staphylococcal-streptococcal.
Modern medicine distinguishes two types of vulgar ektima. One of them is the primary one that occurs on skin areas after receiving minor injuries (for example, combs). Another form of ektima is secondary. It manifests itself as a result of a skin disease and acts as a complication after it.
The reasons for the appearance of vulgar ektima
So, the most common cause of vulgar ecthyma is streptococcal infection. But also an ulcer can appear due to metabolic disorders, general weakness of the body, vitamin deficiency, various serious diseases: diabetes, tuberculosis, and so on. It is the general exhaustion of the body that can be a fertile ground for ulcerative rashes, vulgar ectima is sometimes observed in children who have suffered dehydration.
It is impossible not to mention such a reason for the appearance of vulgar ecthyma as violations of lymph exchange and blood flow. In most cases, this provokes the occurrence of ectim on the legs. Finally, the usual bite of an insect carrier of infection can also lead to the appearance of ecthyma.
Symptoms of vulgar ecthyma
In most cases, foci of vulgar ecthyma are observed on the shins of the legs. Moreover, the lesion is observed in the deep layers of the skin.
The symptoms of ecthyma are expressed in two phases of its development. The first of them is pustules, and in the second phase of ectima development, the ulcer itself is formed. Externally, it looks like a small nodular formation with a bubble on top. After a while, the bubble transforms into a blister, inside of which there is a bloody substance. Therefore, the formation itself has a red color.
Gradually, the tip of the bubble begins to dry up to a dense crust. After 14-15 days, it disappears, and the place is scarred. If the crust is removed prematurely before falling off, then a purulent ulcer is found under it.
Rashes with ectima can be multiple. If the disease itself is severe, then there are quite a lot of pustules. In addition to pain, the patient may feel general weakness and fever, which are symptoms of the inflammatory process.
Diagnosis of vulgar ecthyma
In the presence of ulcers of a purulent nature, it is not difficult for a specialist to make the correct diagnosis. But in any case, research is required. First of all, specialists separate the purulent contents of the ulcer in order to sow for bacterial analysis. With its help, it is determined which means can be used in the treatment.
A histological examination of the contents taken from the ulcer is also carried out. At the same time, all abscess tissues, including necrotic ones, are fully subject to examination. It is required to study the ulcer completely so that further treatment of ectima is effective.
Treatment of vulgar ecthyma
A dermatologist in most cases prescribes an individual course of treatment, which largely depends on the appearance of the ektima and on the number of rashes. If there is a single vulgar ectima, treatment is applied topically. However, with a whole mass of ulcers, complex treatment is prescribed. Most often, bandages and solutions of furacilin, streptocide and other disinfectants are used for this. If the ulcers heal slowly, lapis cauterization is used.
The doctor also recommends the use of physiotherapy. If there are multiple ecthymes, the patient will need to undergo a course of antibiotics. In folk medicine, vulgar ectima is treated by applying compresses with a mass of grated raw potatoes to ulcers. However, you should not rely on self-medication, it is best to immediately consult a professional doctor.
