Urethritis in men
Urethritis is an inflammatory disease of the urethra, which affects both women and men (to a lesser extent). The reason for this is the physiology of the structure of the body and in particular the size of the urethra: in men it is 24 cm, in women – 4 cm.
What are the symptoms and causes of urethritis in men?
The causes of the disease in men is the inflammatory process of the urethra when infections get there or in the case of mechanical injuries. The infection can get during sexual intercourse, in case of a partner’s illness with an STD, if hygiene rules are not followed.
Traumatic injuries can be the cause of urolithiasis. Urethritis often develops after hypothermia of the body, with a decrease in the level of immunity.
Signs of urethritis and symptoms
With the complication of the disease, the patient may have inflammation of the testicles or prostate gland, infertility. Therefore, when the first signs of the disease appear, it is recommended to consult a specialist for diagnosis and timely treatment.
The main signs of urethritis in men are:
Itching, burning and pain are felt during urination;
The presence of secretions with an unpleasant odor;
The presence of hyperemia (in rare cases).
The symptoms of the disease depend on the incubation period, the duration of which is determined by the type of urethritis. This period can be as few hours (allergic type urethritis), or a couple of years (tuberculosis type urethritis).
Diagnosis and its methods for the disease:
Blood tests are given to detect the disease;
A urine test for the level of white blood cells is given;
Tests are being carried out for the presence of sexually transmitted diseases;
The sensitivity of the patient’s body to antibiotics is determined;
Ultrasound of the patient’s pelvis is performed.
Complications and danger of chronic urethritis
In the absence of timely adequate treatment, the disease can turn into a chronic disease, which can cause dangerous complications in a sick patient. Complications manifest themselves in the form of prostatitis, narrowing of the urethra, inflammation of the testicles, prostate gland and seminal vesicles.
Necessary medications for the treatment of urethritis in men
In the treatment, medications and preparations related to antibiotic, antioxidant, antiseptic agents are used, as well as immunotherapy, vitamins, and medicinal immunomodulators are prescribed. The dosage of the drug is determined directly by the attending physician. In the treatment of this disease, experts recommend giving up alcohol and smoking throughout the course of treatment.
To cure urethritis, the doctor selects the necessary complex of drugs, taking into account the cause of the disease and the individual sensitivity of the patient to drugs.
Antibiotics of the main purpose for urethritis:
azithromycin
doxycycline hydrochloride
metronidazole
lincomycin hydrochloride
gentamicin
When taking antibiotics, doctors also recommend taking medications to restore the microflora of the gastrointestinal tract:
linex
bifidumbacterin
Drugs-antihistamines:
suprastin, in capsules or in tablets
tavegil
Vitamin preparations and immunomodulators:
alphabet for men,
duovit for men,
timalin;
gepon;
ribomunil.
Types of the disease in men
Urethritis, depending on the causes of occurrence, is divided into specific and nonspecific diseases.
A specific disease is caused by an infection that is transmitted during sexual intercourse (the causative agents are herpes, trichomonas, gonococcus, chlamydia, ureplasma, gardnerella, chlamydia, mycoplasma).
Nonspecific urethritis appears when the microflora of the body is disturbed, which is caused by fungal infections, staphylococci, E. coli and streptococci.
Types of urethritis disease:
Bacterial urethritis is a non–specific type of disease that is caused by the ingestion of various microorganisms into the urethra, namely chlamydia, streptococci and E. coli. Purulent discharge is possible when urinating.
Trichomonas urethritis is a disease in which the causative agent is the trichomonas bacterium, which is transmitted during sexual contact and causes white discharge from the glans penis.
Candida urethritis is a disease that manifests itself in diabetes or in patients who have undergone long–term treatment with the use of antibacterial agents. The disease is accompanied by curd or watery discharge of white color, which can provoke prostatitis.
Non–specific urethritis is a disease that can be caused by prostatitis or allergic reactions.
Acute gonorrhea urethritis is a venereal disease that occurs when infected with gram–negative diplococcus. When the disease affects the urethra and mucous membranes. Characteristic symptoms are redness of the urethral sponges, purulent discharge, pain, burning.
Gonococcal urethritis is a disease that can pass both without symptoms and with the presence of purulent discharge from the urethra and other signs.
Non–gonococcal urethritis is a disease caused by the penetration of microorganisms, in particular chlamydia, herpes or E. coli into the urethra.
Gardnerellosis urethritis is a disease that proceeds without symptoms and can cause cuperitis and epidymitis.
Fungal urethritis is a disease caused by the penetration of pathogens into the urethra during sexual intercourse, which is accompanied by a watery discharge of white color from the urethra and a curd coating.
Posterior urethritis is a disease that occurs in the prostate and membranous glands of men, characterized by the release of cloudy urine with blood, severe pain and frequent urge to urinate.
