Prostate adenoma
Prostate adenoma, or as it is also called, prostatic hyperplasia, is a tumor of a conditionally benign nature. According to urological statistics, every second man seeks medical help for prostate pathologies. As a rule, such appeals occur after the age of 50. This disease is recognized as the most common in urology.
Causes of prostate adenoma
Modern medicine today does not have reliable information about the causes that provoke the development of this disease. One of the most likely hypotheses of the occurrence of adenoma is considered male menopause. Therefore, the probability of this disease is relevant for any man, without exception.
The probability of adenoma in the presence of venereal and inflammatory diseases of the genitals of a man, his provocation by tobacco or alcohol addiction, sexual orientation and sexual activity has not been proven.
Symptoms of prostate adenoma
The main symptom of this disease is urination disorders. There is a conditionally designated beginning of the disease – lack of pleasure when urinating, especially if the bladder is completely filled. In order to prevent the development of the disease, a man should seek medical help at this very moment.
Gradually, in addition to the absence of pleasant sensations when urinating, a man begins to worry about more frequent urges, with less pronounced intensity. The urine stream decreases significantly, becomes weaker, and the amount of urine is noticeably reduced. The man is worried about nighttime urges to empty the bladder, which were not previously noted.
The most characteristic symptom of adenoma is expressed in the manifestation of such intense urge to urinate, which a person is unable to postpone even for a short period of time.
In the absence of medical treatment provided, the process of urination becomes more and more painful. The jet has practically no pressure and the urine does not fall along a curve, but vertically. In order for the process of urination to begin, the patient has to strain the abdominal muscles as much as possible. In some cases, it is so tiring for patients that they have to take some break in the act of urination.
With the further development of the disease, the development of renal failure occurs, since the kidneys are affected. This phenomenon is characterized by the manifestation of constant thirst, irritability, weakness, dry mouth.
The patient’s bladder is constantly filled with urine, but when urinating, urine is released only in drops. Against this background, urinary incontinence develops, at first it occurs at night, but gradually urine begins to stand out during the day and night.
Diagnosis of prostate adenoma
When a patient complains of urination problems, the urologist conducts a physical examination, that is, palpation of the prostate gland through the rectum.
Laboratory and instrumental studies are carried out:
pelvic x-ray;
Ultrasound;
general analysis of urine and blood.
Prostate Adenoma Therapy
Depending on the stage of the disease, treatment can be conservative (medicamental) or operative.
In the early stages, medications are prescribed that greatly facilitate the course of the disease and reduce the volume of the enlarged gland.
At the advanced stage of the disease, surgical treatment is prescribed for the purpose of partial or total removal of the prostate gland. These are the most effective methods of treatment that guarantee the preservation of the patient’s life.
