Papulopustular acne
Papulopustular acne is a special kind of acne. This type of acne is characterized by inflammatory processes in the area of blockage of the hair follicle, expressed in nodular (papules) or purulent (pustules) formations. Most often, girls and boys suffer from such acne during puberty. However, problems can also occur at a more mature age. The provoking factors for the appearance of acne can be a violation of metabolic processes, thyroid disease, the influence of an aggressive environment and improper skin care of the face and body.

Papulopustular acne
Despite the widespread prevalence of the disease, experts have not yet come to a consensus on the causes of papulopustular rash.
Manifestations of papulopustular acne
Acne according to this type of development have the shape of a hemisphere, reach sizes up to 5 mm in diameter, often with a cystic formation at the tip (comedones).
At the initial stage of the disease, acne is represented by small papules and pustules of a reddish color. Then the acne increases in size, fills with purulent contents, the skin around them becomes bluish or purple.
With improper treatment, papulopustular acne can leave behind pigmented spots and post-acne scars.
Diagnosis of papulopustular acne
Only a dermatologist determines the type of acne by making a differential comparison with other types of acne. Also, this type of rash has common signs with inflammation of streptococcal and staphylococcal etiology. In addition, hyperpigmentation after the inflammatory process remains not only after a purulent rash, but is also a sign of dermatitis. Post-acne scars must be distinguished from vitiligo.
When diagnosing, the stage of development of the disease is determined:
a light form with comedones and up to a dozen papulopustular acne;
average — up to 40 blackheads;
the severe stage is characterized by a large number of rashes. The disease is complicated by phlegmonous, conglobate or indurative acne. Depending on the form of the disease, a therapeutic course is prescribed.
Treatment of papulopustular acne
First of all, medical appointments are aimed at:
Reduction of sebum production;
Normalization of keratin deposition in epidermal cells;
Stabilization of microflora;
Removal of the inflammatory process.
At the initial stage of the disease, drugs are prescribed that reduce the hyperkeratous process, relieve inflammation and have an antibacterial effect:
Benzoyl peroxide;
Tretinoin;
Resorcinol;
Azeloic acid;
Clindamycin;
Salicylic acid;
Erythromycin, etc
. The treatment course may include cryotherapy, cryomassage, mesotherapy, physiotherapy procedures.
Treatment of papulopustular acne in the middle and severe stages of development involves general therapy, including:
Antibiotics. Their selection is made only after bacterial sowing;
Synthetic derivatives of vitamin A, which effectively levels the bacterial process. However, these medications can negatively affect the liver, so they should be taken only as prescribed by a doctor. In addition, synthetic derivatives are prohibited for future moms, due to the ability of drugs to penetrate the placental barrier;
Medicines that increase immunity;
Antiandrogens that reduce the formation of sebum. They are prescribed only after hormonal examination.
A full treatment course lasts, as a rule, more than one month.
In cases of post-acne scarring, cosmetic procedures are recommended for patients, including laser polishing, mechanical peeling, etc.
Prevention of papulopustular acne
In order to prevent the appearance of acne and prevent the development of relapse, it is necessary to include preventive measures in the daily exercise routine:
After washing, it is recommended to use special lotions that remove excess fat;
Protect the skin of the face from the effects of aggressive environment by applying special creams;
Stick to a balanced diet. It is known that carbohydrates contribute to the production of sebum and provoke the formation of acne.
Observing these basic rules, the risk of skin rashes will be minimal.
