Neurodermatitis is an inflammatory skin disease that manifests itself in a chronic or allergic form. This disease is quite common and accounts for almost half of the cases of the total number of skin diseases. Most often, neurodermatitis affects children. The disease can last for a considerable period, but with the onset of puberty it completely recedes.
Causes of neurodermatitis:
hereditary predisposition;
physical and mental strain;
poor nutrition, non-compliance with the correct daily routine;
the presence of intoxication in the body;
instability to stressful conditions;
problems in the gastrointestinal tract;
malfunction of the central nervous system;
reduced immunity and metabolic failure;
inflammatory process in the body;
harmful working conditions (chemical industry);
external factors (pet hair, pollen, some medications).
Types of neurodermatitis:
hypertrophic;
linear;
limited;
diffuse.
Symptoms of neurodermatitis
The main symptom of this disease is severe itching and rash in the neck area. Gradually, the rash spreads to the area of the mouth, eye lids, cheeks and neck. Elbow and knee bends, buttocks and genitals are the following places of localization of the rash.
The skin color on the affected areas has a red tint and over time these skin areas peel off. Itching from a rash can be so severe that a person cannot resist combing.
Neurodermatitis has a negative effect on the normal functioning of the adrenal glands, which causes some darkening of the skin. With neurodermatitis , it is noted:
lowering blood glucose levels;
reduction of pressure readings;
weakness and apathy;
irreparable fatigue;
inflammation of the lymph nodes.
Chronic neurodermatitis is characterized by exacerbation in winter, and persistent remission is noted in summer.
Diagnosis of neurodermatitis
In most cases, it does not cause difficulties and is based on the analysis of objective data, anamnesis and collection of patient complaints. Must be shown:
visual inspection of the affected skin areas;
general blood test;
immunological and biochemical blood tests;
taking skin particles for examination.
Treatment of neurodermatitis
If the request for medical help for this disease occurred in a timely manner, then the treatment prognoses are quite favorable.
Medical treatment
Antihistamines are used for treatment, which are prescribed by a doctor after confirming the diagnosis and determining the cause of the disease. Hormonal ointments are used for external exposure, which relieve itching and inflammation. Mild sedatives are prescribed to relieve irritating symptoms.
Since taking certain medications is not enough for effective treatment, patients with a diagnosis of neurodermatitis must follow a number of rules that will help avoid exacerbation of the disease and significantly reduce the duration of its treatment:
compliance with the daily routine (reasonable physical and mental loads;
enough sleep;
proper nutrition;
a full rest (preferably sanatorium or spa treatment).
maintaining a high level of immunity (vitamins and hardening procedures).
positive attitude to life.
If the disease is neglected and difficult to respond to traditional treatment, hormone therapy and physiotherapy may be prescribed.
Neurodermatitis is not a life-threatening disease, but in the absence of adequate treatment, infection and microorganisms can penetrate through damaged areas of the skin, which can cause a severe skin infection.
