Furuncle is an acute inflammatory disease characterized by damage to the hair follicle and the adjacent sebaceous gland, with the involvement of surrounding tissues in the process.
reasons
The main cause of boils is Staphylococcus. Staphylococcus refers to conditionally pathogenic flodra, but it can cause diseases when unfavorable factors affect a person:
EXOGENOUS:
Superficial injuries, scratches, cuts, burns
Hypothermia
Overheating of the body
In childhood, the imperfection of thermoregulation
ENDOGENOUS:
Diseases of the endocrine system (diabetes mellitus)
Disorders of the nervous system: neurosis, chronic stress, lack of sleep, depression
Poor nutrition
Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract
Diarrhea, dehydration, repeated vomiting
In childhood – imperfection and immaturity of the stratum corneum of the epidermis
Increased sweating
Allergic diseases (dermatitis, eczema, scabies, pruritus)
FAVORITE LOCALIZATION:
The back of the head
Lower back
Forearms
Belly
Buttocks
Lower extremities
symptoms
There are three stages in the development of a boil: infiltration, suppuration and necrosis, healing
The disease begins acutely with redness on the skin. The infiltrate can be palpated. The size of the infiltrate can reach 3 cm. the skin around the infiltrate is swollen, hyperemic, painful. This is the infiltrative stage
In the second stage, which occurs 4 days after the start, a purulent-necrotic rod appears. At this moment, there may be a manifestation of general intoxication, a rise in temperature to 38 degrees, malaise, headaches, weakness. The stage of opening the so-called furuncle tire ends with the further expiration of pus. There may be blood in the pus. The yellow-green necrotic plug is also separated. At the end of the stage, a crater, an ulcer remains in place of the boil.
The third stage is characterized by the healing of the crater, its scarring occurs. After 2-5 days, the affected area is completely granulated, scarring by day 10.
Since a boil can appear in any part of the body, there are specific symptoms. For example, with a boil in the external auditory canal, the patient will complain of hearing loss, tinnitus. Ear pain. All these symptoms disappear after the opening of the abscess. With a boil in the nasal cavity, breathing disorders may occur on the affected side.
If multiple boils appear on the body, this is furunculosis. Furunculosis is the first and very common sign of diabetes mellitus.
There are acute and chronic furunculosis. Chronic furunculosis can occur in two forms: ulcers appear at short intervals of up to 5 days, remissions are short, or continuous rashes for a long time.
COMPLICATIONS
Abscess
Carbuncle
Phlegmon
Erysipelas
Phlebitis
Lymphadenitis
Pyeloneuritis
Meningitis
is an abscess of the brain
diagnostics
Examination by a dermatologist
Dermatoscopy
Bacterial sowing of pus from an abscess
Clinical blood test for sugar, general blood test
Consultation of an endocrinologist
In some cases, diagnosis may be difficult, differential diagnosis of folliculitis, hydradenitis, erythema nodosum may be necessary.
treatment
In most cases, the boil requires only local treatment: ointment dressings with Ichthyol, dry heat, hardware physiotherapy (UHF). After opening the abscess, hypertensive bandages are shown to “pull” fluid and pus from the inflamed area, Levomicol ointment, Levosin. In some cases, broad-spectrum antibiotics are prescribed, taking into account the sensitivity of bakposev. With furunculosis, a thorough diagnosis and identification of the cause is shown – then treatment of the root cause, increasing the body’s resistance
PREVENTION
Compliance with the rules of personal hygiene
Rehabilitation of chronic foci of infection
Treatment of wounds with antiseptic agents
Medical examination for diabetes mellitus
