Big nose
Although a large nose attracts attention, its correction is required only when it creates disharmony of facial features, since this feature of appearance can provoke an inferiority complex and uncertainty in the patient.
Sometimes the nose can have completely normal dimensions, but at the same time seem large enough against the background of other parts of the face. Fortunately, rhinoplasty easily copes with this problem.
The shape of the nose and its size largely depend on national characteristics and innate traits. The appearance of the nose may change during life due to injuries or inflammation. With age, its appearance can also change due to tissue ptosis, in which the tip of the nose drops, and the nose itself seems larger.
At the same time, it is important to take into account that the nose grows up to about 21 years old, so rhinoplasty is not recommended for patients who have not reached this age.
The method of correcting the appearance of the nose largely depends on the individual characteristics of the body and the reasons why it looks inharmonious on the face. You can change the size and shape of the nose in various ways, for example, perform a tightening with threads, undergo a course of botulinum toxin injections or perform contouring.
Anthropological parameters of the nose
Due to different combinations of length, width, height, as well as the ratio of the base of the back and the tip, each person has a unique nose. In plastic surgery, a nose that has the following characteristics is considered ideal:
the length of the nose should be equal to 1/3 of the length of the face;
the width should not exceed 1/3 of the length of the nose;
the height of the nose should be equal to 1.5 parts of the width of the nose;
the ideal nose angle is 30 degrees.
The ratio of the width of the nose to its length as a percentage can vary between 60%-110%. The nasal indicator is often found in anthropology with the following values:
up to 69.9% — leptorinia, high narrow nose;
70-84.9% — mesorhinia, a characteristic indicator of medium size;
85-99.9% — hamerinia, characterized by a wide and low nose;
the indicator of 100% is hyperhammerinia, a sign of a very large nose.
Leptorinia is most often found in Eskimos and Europeans, and hamerinia is common among residents of Africa and Australia. Anthropologists claim that the appearance of the nose is associated with the adaptation of the body to the climate and living conditions.
Physiological features of a large nose
In medicine, a large nose is primarily valued for its protective properties. Doctors say that such a nose becomes a serious obstacle preventing pollen, dust, and microorganisms from entering the respiratory tract. 7% fewer allergens and viruses enter the body of people with large and protruding noses than the owners of an average nose. In addition, it prevents harmful substances from entering the oral cavity from the air.
With all this, few owners of such a nose consider this a virtue, so they resort to rhinoplasty. Most often this procedure is done by women, as this feature complicates life for many of them. Many patients with such a nose faced ridicule in childhood, which led to complexes in later life.
Plastic correction of the shape and size of a large nose
Surgical correction of the nose is a very important decision, so before the operation you need to make sure that the new nose will be perfectly combined with other facial features of its owner. For this purpose, you can use computer modeling. With it, you can create a nose that will be in harmony with the rest of the facial features. Unfortunately, in some cases, computer modeling gives only an approximate result, since the doctor does not yet know the individual characteristics of the body, such as cartilage and bone tissue. Most often, during the planning of the operation, a specialist offers a complex facial plastic surgery, which combines blepharoplasty, skin tightening, rhinoplasty and liposuction.
There are no medical indications for nose reduction, this operation is performed solely for aesthetic purposes. During the procedure, the doctor changes the shape of the nose and its size, can simultaneously remove the hump, straighten the septum, eliminate some functional disorders. Before the operation, the surgeon gives answers to all the patient’s questions, warns about possible consequences, discusses the stages of surgery.
There are several ways to reduce the nose. Their choice depends on whether the patient wants to reduce the nose completely or only a separate part of it. The operation is performed exclusively under general anesthesia. Incisions can be made both from the inside and from the outside of the nostrils. Rhinoplasty itself can be performed both by open and closed methods. In the first case, all manipulations take place on the nasal septum, and in the second — inside the nostrils.
If the patient has a large and long nose, then after the incisions, the surgeon excises part of the cartilage and bone tissue, lowers the back of the nose. After the shape of the nose has been changed, the nose bones are brought together. If necessary, excess skin is excised. After this procedure, the nose becomes much smaller and more elegant.
If the patient has a hump, the doctor can remove it with a rasp during the operation, after which he will manually form the back of the nose. If the nose has too wide nostrils, the soft tissues are removed and moved closer to the middle.
In the presence of a curved septum, septorinoplasty can be performed in parallel. During its implementation, defective bone and cartilaginous parts of the nose are eliminated, after which breathing is normalized.
The operation lasts 1-2 hours. If all the doctor’s instructions are followed, the rehabilitation period is quite easy.
